Maniago
Maniago
A small town in the province of Friuli-Venezia-Giulia in northern Italy.
But Maniago is not so insignificant at all. In this little town, at the foot of the Carnic prealps, all kinds of knives, swords and daggers were produced centuries ago. You can safely say that today the town is responsible for the largest knife production in Italy.
You name it, there are professions that make use of Maniago’s sharp objects. Think of cooks, butchers, barbers, farmers, gardeners, surgeons, veterinarians, sailors, hunters, builders, masons, deep-sea divers, etc, spread all over the world. In Maniago, everything revolves around knives. Some 70 different factories make not only (pocket) knives but also corkscrews, scissors, cutlery, agricultural tools and surgical instruments every day. They employ nearly 2,000 people.
The Scarabello family is also from this charming little town, and since 2022 a family member, Umberto Scarabello, has also been the new mayor of Maniago. A few generations after Giuliano Scarabello left for the Netherlands, his eldest grandson started a new jewellery brand under this name. Out of respect for the land where designers find the inspiration to create the most beautiful and sophisticated products.
